A joint effort between the American Red
Cross and the Salvation Army has made 2009 the eighth year
that the Proud To Be American License Plate has been
available. This attractive plate is more than just a symbol
of pride and commitment to the values of America, but a
contribution to help fund disaster preparedness and relief
programs administered
by the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
Over the past 7 years, 81 of Michigan's
83 counties have directly benefited from these funds in the
form of education and direct disaster relief. The Michigan
Red Cross has trained over 8,000 volunteers and has
responded to 18,000 local single-family disasters such as
house fires, tornados, and floods. These funds help us
provide the families with the necessities to meet their
immediate needs by supplying them with food, clothing,
shelter, and replacement medications to help them maintain
their dignity and begin the recovery process.
